Instructions relating to submission of OCI and OCI Misc. Service
From 23rd November, 2015, all applicants for registration as OCI cardholder or for OCI Miscellaneous services are requested to follow the procedure mentioned below:
i) The applicant shall submit the application forms online (https://passport.gov.in/oci) and upload the requisite documents (self-attested), photograph and signature (in the case of minors who cannot sign, left hand thumb impression) along with the application.
ii) Originals of the supporting documents have to be submitted to the Embassy for prior verification.
iii) If there is any deficiency in the application/uploaded documents/photograph, the Embassy will inform the applicant by email. The applicant may then submit the required documents to the Embassy, who will take necessary action to upload the same on the online system.
iv) When the application is uploaded after verification of documents and processed by the Embassy, the applicant will get an auto email informing 'Application received and is under process'. Thereafter, the originals of the supporting documents will be returned to the applicant.
v) If any applicant has to renounce his/her Indian citizenship, the application for renouncing of Indian citizenship should be submitted separately before applying for OCI card.
vi) Applicants who may have difficulty in filling up the applications forms online are welcome to come the Embassy with prior appointment so that they can be given necessary assistance. The telephone numbers and email address for requesting an appointment are given below:

Evidence of relationship as parent/grand-parent, if their Indian origin is claimed as basis for grant of OCI. Latest Personbevis / familiebevis issued by Skattemyndegheten (Extract of Population Register issued by Swedish Tax Authority) giving the name of the child and his / her parents.
SOME IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE
(i) The Overseas Citizens of India card holders, while travelling to India, must carry the OCI booklet and their passport having "U" visa sticker if OCI booklet issued before 5th October, 2015.
(ii) For an applicant who is 21-49 years of age, there is no need to re-issue OCI documents each time a new passport is issued. However, if the applicants desires, he/she can request that the OCI documents be re-issued so that the OCI documents reflect the correct passport number.
(iii) For an applicants who is 50 years of age or older, OCI documents must be re-issued once after the issuance of a new passport
(iv)An individual, who has ever been a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh, is not eligible for OCI Card
(v) Under Indian law, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), who have acquired foreign citizenship, are required to surrender their Indian passports to the nearest Indian Mission/Post immediately after acquisition of foreign citizenship. In view of these provisions, PIOs, intending to apply for OCI/PIO Cards and Visa, should surrender their Indian passports, obtain Renunciation Certificates and then apply for these services. This would also be applicable to the PIOs who seek to renew their OCI/PIO Cards or seek fresh Visa. For further details, it is requested to refer to Visa & Consular Services --> Passport Services.
